About Us

FixWik is built by people who believe useful things should stay useful.

Too much gets replaced because finding the answer takes longer than buying another one. The repair may be buried in a 38-minute video at 12:47, on page 63 of a manual, or scattered across forums, parts sites, notes, and somebody else's experience. You may already own the tool or part you need and simply cannot remember where you put it.

FixWik brings that information together. Save the repair, the exact video timestamp, the manual page, the parts, tools, prices, notes, and what actually worked. Keep it with the item or project so you never have to solve the same problem twice.

FixWik is also about knowing what you have and putting it to work. That extra filter from the mower you sold, the wrench you own five of, the chainsaw you rarely use, or the leftover material from a project still has value. Lend it, rent it, trade it, sell it, gift it, donate it, or pass it to someone who can use it.

Your research has value. Your tools have value. Your stuff has value. Most importantly, your time has value.

Our Philosophy

Think like a FixWiker.

Before you replace something, try to FixWik it.

Repair it when it makes sense. Find what you already own before buying another one. Keep useful tools, parts, materials, and equipment working instead of forgotten in a garage or prematurely thrown away.

When you figure something out, save what mattered. If the answer starts at 12:47, save 12:47. If a better tool saves twenty minutes, record it. If a cheaper compatible part works, share it. If you discover a shortcut, correction, or safer method, improve the repair for the next FixWiker.

That is how FixWik gets better. One person's research becomes somebody else's head start, and the next person can improve it again.

We also believe unused things should have another chance to work. A tool can be loaned. Equipment can be rented. Extra parts can be sold or given away. Materials can finish somebody else's project. Tools can be transferred into your kid's toolbox instead of buying another set.

The goal is not to keep everything forever. It is to keep useful things useful for as long as they still have value.

Find it. Fix it. Work it. Keep it.

FixWik itself should work the same way.

We do not expect to get everything right the first time. If something works, tell us. If it does not, tell us. If something is confusing, unnecessary, missing, or harder than it should be, we want to know.

Positive feedback tells us what to keep. Negative feedback tells us what to fix.

We are willing to change quickly when someone finds a better way. FixWikers will see things we missed, improve ideas we started, and develop solutions we never considered.

That is not a problem with FixWik. That is the point of FixWik.
